Death Of The Arcade is a site specific work in which Mills brings an old videogame cabinet into a gallery space to excentuate the absence of the arcade itself, commenting on the disappearance of vibrant arcade scene of late 1970′s and 80′s.
The postcard that accompanies the installation features a list of arcades in the Southern California area. With this piece, the artist hopes viewers will take the time to visit an arcade themselves.
Death of the Arcade was created in conjunction with the exhibition “Hey Man, You’re Saved.” at Monte Vista Projects in Los Angeles in December 2009. The group of artists that participated in this show were guided through the processes of creating and installing their work by artist/filmmaker Sharon Lockhart.
